Passage 1

You’re enjoying a movie in the cinema when suddenly a loud noise attacks your ears. What an annoying experience it is! You called your friend several times, he missed your calls. Does it hurt your feelings if he doesn’t call you back? We have all been victims (受害者) of bad mobile phone behavior before, but have you ever impolitely used your phone yourself?

Passage 2

When you’re having dinner at a Westerner's home, having good table manners makes you a nice guest. Here are some tips:

When you are ready to eat, sit up straight on the chair. Usually, don't put your elbows (胳膊肘) on the table. First pick your napkin up and put it on your lap (膝盖). You can use it to clean your hands or mouth, but not your face. When you finish eating, put it back on the table.

Don't make any noise when you eat or drink the soup. It's not good to speak when your mouth is full. If you want to get some food that's out of reach, ask others to pass the dish to you. Put bones on the edge of the plate. And remember, take bread with your hand, not with a fork.

Passage 3

Manners are important to happy relations among people. No one likes a person with bad manners. A person with good manners never laughs at people when they are in trouble. Instead, he tries to help them. When he asks for something, he says“Please.”And when he receives something, he usually says“Thank you”. He does not interrupt(打扰)others when they are talking. He does not talk loudly or laugh loudly in public. When he sneezes or spits, he uses a handkerchief. If he is late, he makes an apology either at the time or after that.

Passage 4

Nowadays, more Chinese people travel at home or abroad. But some of them have bad manners. This hurt China's international image (形象)

For example, on Tian'anmen Square, there is old chewing gum (口香糖) in almost every corner. Newspapers show photos of a child peeing (撒尿) outside a restaurant at Hong Kong Disneyland. Some hotels in Singapore are upset with Chinese tourists because some of them spit in their rooms and smoke in bed. On a European train, a Chinese tour group talked and laughed very loudly. Some tourists even took off their shoes, and one coughed loudly without covering his mouth. Lots of other travellers moved away from them.
